The history of Mandatory Cola™™™ is one filled with legend. Our story begins in 1863. J. Thomas Purnell, a wealthy plantation owner from the South, was busy attempting to make a delicous elixir with which to give his farmhands to make them work faster. After twelve unsuccessful brews, Purnell finally stumbled upon a rather tasty treat! Making it "mandatory" for his workers to drink his new beverage every morning before setting off to work in the fields, Purnell's new "soft-beverage" soon caught the eye of fellow Southern plantation owners, who offered money for bottle of Purnell's brew for both their workers and themselves! By the end of the Civil War, Purnell had sold nearly three hundred bottles of his scrumptious concoction all over the state!

Always an enterprising man, he soon headed North with his son, J. Thomas Purnell II to start a "soft-beverage" company called Purnell and Son Soft-Beverage Company, Incorporated. Christening his creation "Professor J. Thomas Purnell's Delicous and Satisfying Soft-Beverage Elixir", Purnell's company started marketing the soda-pop to drug stores and dime shops all over the east coast. The reaction was well recieved, and by the turn of the century, Purnell had sold well over one million servings of his elixir!

After Purnell died in 1901, J. Thomas Purnell II took steps to revitalize Purnell and Son Soft-Beverage Company for the 20th century. Rechristening the company's flagship product "Mandatory-Cola", Purnell soon realized the power of advertising. Following an avalance of advertising, Mandatory-Cola soon became one of the most popular soft-beverages in the United States! When America entered World War I, Mandatory-Cola did its part by financially our nation's fighting men in exchange for advertising Mandatory-Cola on war equipment, such as tanks and army helmets.

Reflecting this change, Mandatory-Cola changed its name a third and final time to Mandatory Cola™™™. In the years since then, Mandatory Cola™™™ has grown to become one of the most popular and most bleoved soft drinks worldwide.
